Possible Risks, Hazards, or Complications of Permanent Cosmetics
*A lot of these possible risks, hazards, or complications can happen with body tattooing as well.*
Pain: Topical anesthetics work differently for everyone, so pain relief from such products is hard to determine. Nickole works as gentle as possible in order to give you a pleasant experience, but pain can still be a factor when being tattooed.
Infection: Infection is very unusual, but not impossible. Areas that receive treatments should be kept clean and only touched with freshly washed hands. Certain products, makeup, creams, etc. can cause infection if applied too early in the healing process.
Uneven Pigmentation: This can result from poor healing, infection, bleeding, or other causes. Your 6-12 week touch-up appointment should adjust any uneven appearance in pigment.
Asymmetry: Every effort will be made to avoid asymmetry, but our faces are not symmetrical so adjustments may be needed during the touch-up session to adjust any asymmetry.
Excessive Swelling/Bruising: Some people bruise and swell more than others. Ice packs may help prevent this and typically disappears within 1-5 days. Some don’t bruise or swell at all.
Eye Exposure: There is a small risk of eye injury when an eyeliner procedure is done.
Anesthetics: Topical anesthetics are used to numb the area to be tattooed. Lidocaine, Prilocaine, Tetracaine, Benzocaine, and Epinephrine in a cream or gel form are typically used. If you are allergic to any of these it is absolutely vital to inform Nickole.
MRI: Because some pigments in PMU procedures can contain inert oxides, a low-level magnet may be required if you need to be scanned by an MRI machine for any reason. You must inform your technician of any tattoos or permanent cosmetics.
Fever Blisters/Cold Sores: If you are prone to cold sores or fever blisters, (HSV1) there is a high probability that you will get them if you receive lip blushing. It is advised that you call your doctor at least 3 days- a month before your appointment with Nickole to get a prescription antiviral to help prevent this from occurring during healing. Sometimes it still happens even while taking an antiviral.
Allergic reaction: There is possibility of an allergic reaction. You may take a patch test ($100) in order to check for reaction, but you will need to wait at least 24 hours to see how your skin responds.
Before Your Treatment
Think about the look you want to achieve. Having reference photos are a big help! Your input is always included in the process, but if Nickole thinks that something may not be best suited, she will let you know and give you a reason. Permanent Cosmetic procedures normally require more than one session to achieve desired results. It is always best to do lighter, softer passes, than to have it too bold and too dark right away. You can always build color, shape, etc. but you cannot easily remove. For the best results, you will be required to come in for one touch-up appointment (6-12 weeks) after your initial appointment. Color intensity right after your procedure is significantly sharper and bolder. As the skin heals over the course of 6 weeks, the color and shape will soften and appear more natural (heals 30-50% lighter.) Since your skin will be open and sensitive immediately following your appointment, it is advised to not make any plans for the rest of that day.
Things to Avoid Before and After Treatment
Do not take Niacin, Vitamin E or C, Ibuprofen, or other OTC blood altering medications 1 week before your appointment and 1 week after. If you are on prescription blood altering medications, you must be off of them for a certain period of time before your appointment (ask your doctor how long would be best) or a physician’s approval of services statement must be placed on file before services can be considered.
A patch test is recommended for those with known allergies, but can be waived. A patch test is $100.
Do not use Retin-A products near treatment area for 2 weeks before and after your appointment.
Do not work out the day of your appointment and for 2 weeks after.
Do not tan (sun, bed, or spray) for 2 weeks before your appointment and for 6 weeks after. Once fully healed, you should use sun protection on treatment area while tanning or outside in the sun.
No alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before your appointment, especially if you have either quite frequently. You can have these directly after.
Do not wax, thread or tint in the treatment area 2 weeks before your appointment or 2 weeks after.
If you are menstruating while you have your appointment, this may cause higher sensitivity.
Procedures cannot be done if there are any break outs, rashes, lesions, skin cancers, moles, bumps, open wounds, etc. in the treatment area on the day of your appointment. If something pops up or happens right before your appointment, please let Nickole know so that she can reschedule you.
IPL laser hair removal should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your enhancement and should not be performed again for 6 weeks after your appointment.
Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 5 days before your appointment.
